This collection, spanning from 1867-1926, celebrates the Millieme: one-thousandth of a pound and one-tenth of a piastre, a coin that once held great value and is no longer in circulation; and the Egyptian postage stamp.
Four prints celebrate the Pyramid and the Sphinx, Egypt’s greatest symbols: the first unified Sphinx and Pyramid design issued August 1, 1867 during the reign of Khedive Ismail; the January 1, 1888 issue during the reign of Khedive Tewfiq; and the two January 8, 1914 issues during the reign of Khedive Abbas Helmi II.
The Desert Postman, one of the most beautiful stamps ever produced, was issued when the Sudan was still part of Egypt.
The Express, issued during the reign of King Fuad I, captures dynamic motion, as the newly-independent Egypt forges ahead.
